Editorial Policy

How we write, fact-check, and update Spokane HVAC Pros content.

Last updated 2025-06-17. Every published service article and blog post goes through the process below before going live. This page describes that process in full.

1. Reviewer

Every published article is reviewed for technical accuracy by Mark Tindall, Lead HVAC Technician & Content Reviewer, with 22 years in the HVAC trade. He holds the credentials listed on his profile: NATE-certified (North American Technician Excellence); EPA Section 608 Universal Refrigerant Certification; WSHBA Spokane Home Builders Association member; Washington State L&I plumber/HVAC registration PLMBSPOS842BC.

Mark's review pass verifies equipment specifications, current Washington State code references, accurate cost ranges from recent invoices in our referral network, and proper application of ACCA Manual J / Manual D / Manual S where sizing matters.

2. Sourcing

We use primary sources only. For each numeric claim, regulatory reference, or technical specification, we cite the source by name, publisher, and date. The most common sources we cite:

  • U.S. Department of Energy — equipment efficiency standards, federal rebate programs (Heat Pump Technology Roadmap, IRA 25C tax credit).
  • U.S. Environmental Protection Agency — refrigerant handling requirements (Section 608).
  • NOAA National Weather Service Spokane — climate data, heating degree days, design temperatures.
  • Avista Utilities — published residential rate schedule.
  • ACCA (Air Conditioning Contractors of America) — Manual J, Manual D, Manual S sizing standards.
  • ASHRAE — Standard 52.2 (MERV filter ratings), Handbook chapters.
  • DSIRE — Washington State and utility heat-pump rebate database.
  • Washington State L&I — contractor license verification.
  • IRS — Form 5695, Inflation Reduction Act implementation.
  • Spokane Clean Air Agency — current burn bans and air quality readings.

We do not cite marketing copy from HVAC manufacturers unless the data is verifiable against an independent third party (DOE, NEEP, ASHRAE, ACCA).

3. Pricing methodology

Pricing ranges on service pages are aggregated from completed invoices issued by contractors in our referral network across Spokane County between January 2024 and May 2025. Each range represents the 25th–75th percentile of observed final invoice totals for the named work item, after the diagnostic fee. Outlier invoices (under $200 or over $25,000) are excluded. Ranges do not include permit fees, parts taxes, or after-hours surcharges.

We re-verify pricing quarterly. The last re-verification date is shown at the top of every page in the "About this page" footer.

4. AI-use policy

We use AI as a drafting and analysis tool. Specifically: AI is used to (a) draft initial prose for a topic the reviewer has already outlined, (b) summarize source documents to extract quotable facts, and (c) suggest FAQ questions and topical cluster links for internal linking.

AI is not used to: (a) make technical claims (those come from cited primary sources), (b) cite sources (every citation is verified by the reviewer), (c) make pricing claims (those come from aggregated invoice data, not AI estimates), or (d) write anything attributed to the named reviewer or any named contractor.

Every published article is reviewed by the named human reviewer before it goes live. The reviewer's name, role, and credentials are listed on the article and on the author's profile page.

5. Update cadence

Pricing, rebate programs, code references, and equipment specifications are re-verified quarterly. The "Last updated" date at the top of every page reflects the most recent material change to the page. The "Last verified" date reflects the most recent pass of the methodology, regardless of whether the prose changed.

Major regulatory changes (new federal rebate programs, updated energy codes, new Washington State L&I requirements) trigger an immediate review pass and update.

6. Corrections

If you find a factual error on any page, please contact us. Corrections are made within 7 business days. The change history of significant corrections is preserved in the "Last updated" date and the methodology/source sections at the bottom of the page.

7. Lead-generation disclosure

Spokane HVAC Pros is a Spokane-based lead-generation service that connects homeowners with independent, licensed HVAC contractors in Spokane County. We are not a licensed HVAC contractor. Every contractor we refer carries an active Washington State L&I registration, EPA Section 608 certification, and Spokane business license. See our About and TCPA disclosure pages for full details.
